SLEEVE NOTES

This is the third in what now seems to be an annual tradition – the dissection of a festive film favourite, and for this one Ben has suggested we take a trip back to the 1990s and the unusual cinematic pairing of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad (remember him?).

We’ve had a little break from podcasting for a couple of months – though some live events were recorded and they’ll be making their way into the run during 2020, so this is a nice easy way to ease us back into being in studio together. It’s lovely to have Ben back on the mixing desk and contributing to the episode too – his presence always changes the dynamic and stops Rachael and me disappearing up our own asses.  We’d planned a triple episode record originally, but owing to various issues it became a double record only.

The portable studio hit some problems during the last record and this one, with interference in one of the Shure mics we use. Without a spare, the onboard mic from the Zoom desk was used for Ben’s input at his suggestion – he tends not to speak a lot any way. Ben did the post-record edit too, fixing levels and EQ across the track.

Recorded in Holywood on 14 December 2019. Engineered and mixed by Ben using his portable studio. Final edit by me and uploaded on 25 December 2019.

Incidentally, we’ve taken the opportunity to renumber the pods at this point. We definitely felt that the stuff that went out earlier in 2019 was a series in its own right, and slightly separate to those from 2017/18. So this is our 23rd podcast, but also series 3 episode 1.  Think that might make things easier in future! You can let us know!
